My Manifesto

What is my art?

Self-reflection Through Observation

Identity is at the centre of who we are yet, in our modern age of social media and mass information, we appear to be losing our sense of Self. I recognised this in myself through both mental and physical health issues that were affected by my disorientation and misunderstanding of Self.

What started as a personal attempt to discover myself has led to fine-tuning my identity and creating a common narrative through my works. Not only has this helped me, it has allowed me to make some genuine and beautiful pieces.

Styles

Internal Constructive Exploration

Through meditative practice, I search inward in the hope of discovering more of myself and my view of the world around me. Often guided by literature (such as Camus, Orwell, Hesse, Murakami and Ishiguro); I find this constructive approach a positive challenge for my psyche; helping me explore both simplistic, pure and adolescent thoughts, along with more complex, traumatic and developed ways of reflecting.

Movements Of Note:

  • Constructivism
  • Colour Field painting
  • Abstract Expressionism

Influences:

  • Anthony Caro
  • Bob Edgson
  • Agnes Martin
  • Kenneth Martin
  • Bridget Riley
  • Carol Robertson
  • Mark Rothko
  • Hiroshi Sugimoto
  • Trevor Sutton
Internal Portraits On Conflict

A more instant and free exploration of my internal workings expressed through abstract expressionism. Using a much more Jungian practice, I channel moments of pure instinct; disregarding fear of external judgement and focusing purely on my personal judgement, pushing against internal walls and searching for unexplored trauma, memories and ecstasies.

Movements Of Note:

  • Expressionism
  • Abstract art
  • Modernism

Influences:

  • Frank Auerbach
  • Francis Bacon
  • Lucian Freud
  • Barbara Hepworth
  • Wassily Kandinsky
  • Henry Moore
  • Gerard Richter
  • Mark Rothko
Internal Soundscapes

My internal soundscapes combine both my constructive and expressionist methodologies. I believe this rounds off my attempts for internal exploration by creating a bridge between the visual elements by using audio stimulation.

Movements Of Note:

  • Ambient
  • Drone
  • Noise

Influences:

  • Burial
  • Rival Consoles
  • Max Cooper
  • Matthew Halsall
  • Jon Hopkins
  • KMRU
  • Floating Points
